Direct support for children’s projects

The Action for Children Programme supports children through grants to local, small scale project. The funding is in the form of a matching grant – organizations raise 50% of the project costs. Typical projects supported include: water tanks, jungle gyms. school sick bays, classroom repairs, food gardens and sports equipment.

The Action for Children also promotes local fundraising. It assists local organizations with ideas and tools for fundraising.

The Action for Children is a Soul City initiative. The Action for Children’s international partners are Wilde Ganzen and KidsRights in the Netherlands as well as Cese in Brazil and Smile in India.

Nuthuko Buddyz - Jungle Gym project

Nuthuko Buddyz - Jungle Gym project

Nuthuko Buddyz, based at the Kwazulu-Natal primary school of the same name, is a strong club with solid experience in undertaking small projects. For AFC, the learners decided to help younger learners in the school who lacked a decent place to play during break times. They resolved to build a jungle gym, arguing that it would provide good recreation and physical development for learners, once the application was submitted and approved by the Act for Children; the Ntuthuko Buddyz got busy fundraising.

Silverdale Buddyz - Infrastructure Upgrading Project

The learners at Silverdale Primary School, in Kwazulu-Natal, have a strong belief in education and in improving the environment for education. For their AFC project, they focused on their school classrooms that were dilapidated. If more funds were raised, they also planned to improve facilities in the computer and technology room.

Sesalong Project - Leonard Project

The Sesalong Primary School, in Limpopo, currently has a wood-burning stove; the learners have to take pieces of wood to school or gather pieces of wood after school. With their fundraising activities, they are planning to buy a gas stove. Their planned fundraising activities included selling personalized calendars with learner photos. They will also sell some vegetables from the school’s garden and ask for donations.

Matjeketlane Primary School - Tiling project

This club, based at the Matjeketlane Primary School, in Limpopo, has won many awards from its Soul Buddyz projects. It has now taken on a bigger project: they want to repair several classrooms at their school. The main repair work will be to the floors – this will fix the rough uneven floors of the classroom.

Maluti Hoogland - Fun Playground for Kids

As with any other kids, the children with special needs also have to play and have fun. However, the children from Maluti Hoogland School, in Free State, had nothing and nowhere to play during play times. So the Angels 1 and Angels 2 Buddy clubs decided to address this need. They decided they would work together to make a fun playground for kids.

Soul City: supporting improvement in people's health and quality of life

Soul City Institute is a health and development NGO that runs campaigns to create awareness on social issues, such as HIV-AIDS, women´s rights, child rights, etc.

It uses radio, television, print material and community-based communication to educate and inform. Its key campaigns are the One Love Campaign and the Alcohol and Violence Campaign.
